Church of Saints Gervaso and Protaso
CHURCH OF SAINTS GERVASO AND PROTASO
The church, dating from the 12th century, is a beautiful example of Romanesque architecture with a gabled facade with beola roofing and a six-storey bell tower with a square plan, walled mullioned windows and irregularly arranged cobblestone masonry. The single nave interior with six chapels is the result of various interventions with frescoes from the 15th century, interesting altar frontals in the side chapels added in the 18th century, two panels attributed to Defendente Ferrari (16th centu-ry) and an Annunciation by Camillo Procaccini. On the central vault, to the valuable wooden cruci-fix of the 16th century, is the background of a vision of the Golgotha frescoed by Francinetti, An-drea and Giovanni, from Gignese (mid-1800s).
BAPTISTERY OF SAINT JOHN
The building, which recent studies date back to the 5th century, is preceded by an eighteenth-century portico resting on four granite columns and has a square plan outside and octagonal inside with alternating rectangular and semi-circular niches. The interior space is accessed by going down three steps: here you can admire the frescoes that adorn the lantern and the segmented vault dating back to the early 1500s, while the frescoes on the walls depicting the life of Saint John the Baptist are from the 19th century.

WAY OF THE CROSS AND CHAPEL OF THE SEPULCHRE
On one side of the square there is the charming portico of the Way of the Cross, with granite columns; the frescoes, dating back to the nineteenth century, are by the Valsesian painter Giovanni Avondo and end with the old funerary chapel which was later transformed into the fourteenth station dedicated to the Sepulchre. Inside the chapel there is a wooden statue of Christ and the instruments of the Passion.
