Sanctuary in Re
In Re (Vigezzo Valley), nearby Domodossola, visitors are left speachless by the impressive structure of the Sanctuary’s dome, which stands out against the sky with its altitude of 51 metres.
The Sanctuary was built to celebrate a miracle occurred on April 29th, 1494: the tradition narrates that the young Giovanni Zuccono, defeated in a play, throught a stone at the painting of the Virgin on the façade of the previous little church, which started bleeding.
After this particular event, the small village became destination of many pilgrims.
Today the Sanctuary, managed by “Padri Oblati Diocesani”, presents three big portals decorated with alto-rilievos narrating the Virgin’s life and the miracolous event. In the complex there are no accommodation facilities, but it’s possible to stay in the structures of Re and surroundings.
