Archeomuseo “Khaled al-Asaad”
“A journey through time”
The museum collects archaeological finds from the city and the lower Verbano area, from the Neolithic period to the early Middle Ages.
Yes, you can admire some of the finds from the important pile-dwelling site of Lagoni di Mercurago, which was active for most of the Bronze Age, including the cast of the famous wheel.
Grave goods of the Golasecca culture represent the Early Iron Age from Castelletto Ticino and the Lagoni area and materials from the settlements of Castelletto Ticino and Arona.
Of great interest are the rich funerary finds from the Celtic necropolis of Dormelletto, which testify to the presence of trans-alpine populations in the area.
Finally, there are numerous Roman finds from the town's necropolis and other localities in the area, including the figurine of a matron, which has become the museum's symbol, and a beautiful altar dedicated to the matrons. These Gallic deities were incorporated into the local Roman pantheon.
