Museo civico di Palazzo Silva
Charming Renaissance house rich in furniture and artefacts
For almost five hundred years, Palazzo Silva was the home of the noble della Silva family, who lived there from the middle of the 14th century until the end of the 18th century. The building owes its modern appearance to Paolo, one of the most illustrious members of the family. It is still possible to admire the precious fireplaces in Crevola marble, decorated with the coats of arms of the Della Silva family and other noble families, coats of arms that can also be found in the splendid lapidary in the courtyard of the palace. Acquired by the Fondazione Galletti in 1886, the building became the seat of the Civic Museum of Art and Antiquities, whose collections have been used to reconstruct entire rooms from the past, including the armoury, the kitchen, embellished with some masterpieces by the 19th-century painter Federico Ashton, the Hall of Honour, an antechamber with wooden artefacts from the Capuchin Church of the Sacred Mount Calvario, including a precious wooden altarpiece by Giulio Gualio.
