Museo della Pesca e dell'Isola Pescatori
Stories of the lake, including music and fish
The small Fishing Museum, housed in the house donated to the town by the musician Ugo Ara, where the primary schools used to be, has been set up by the Pro Loco of Isola Pescatori (Fisherman's Island) with instruments and panels recalling the traditional activity of fishing and life on the island.
The museum, which is currently being renovated based on a project by the Politecnico of Milan, will be extended over three floors and, in addition to the fishing museum, will document the old school that was located there and the figure of Ugo Ara, as well as housing a small documentation centre. It is the seat of the Fishing and Isola Pescatori Ecomuseum, a network of places that are important for the history of the island and the lake, such as the old Zanetti house (seat of the Pro Loco, where old pictures and maps of the island are exhibited), the Romanesque church of San Vittore, the characteristic cemetery, the house-museum of the island artist Andrea Ruffoni, the old pier, the harbour...
