Museo Pietro Canonica
Pietro Canonica and Stresa - The iconic Italian sculptor of the 20th century and his works donated to Lake Maggiore
For seventeen years, beginning in 1898, Canonica visited Stresa regularly, thanks to his friendship with the Duchess of Genoa, mother of Queen Margherita of Savoy. The sculptor was a regular guest at the Duchess's villa and created several bronze monuments for the town over three decades. This close relationship led Canonica to donate a group of plaster casts and marbles to the Stresa Town Council in 1953 to be placed in a room dedicated to him. After being housed in the Palazzo dei Congressi, Canonica's sculptures have been restored and are now on display in a dedicated room in the Town Hall.
