Belgirate
The delightful village of Belgirate, a destination for writers and historical figures who have stayed or lived here, appears on the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy of the Spanish daily newspaper El Paìs. Every year, it welcomes a growing number tourists from around the world. There are several reasons for its popularity, include a particularly favourable climate, several historic villas on the lakeside, and the renovated Parco Conelli, which is used for open air art exhibitions. In Belgirate, visitors can also admire the beautiful Chiesa Vecchia (Old Church) with its Romanesque bell tower and recently restored 16th century frescoes. Paths offering breathtaking views of Lake Maggiore and lakes in the Varese area are other attractions that make Belgirate one of the area’s most popular destinations. However, Belgirate also offers sports: Italy’s first yacht club, “La Società delle Regate” was founded here in 1858 and it hosts gatherings and historical re- gattas every year. Other lake sports include underwater activities with the Club Sub Il Sciatt and windsurfing with the Associazione Windsurf Belgirate. Visitors can also go to the public beach and rent sailboats and motor boats. Belgirate can be reached by train, bus, boat (Navigazione Laghi) and car: all parking spaces are free.
