Premia
Premia offers visitors many options: nature excursions, spa baths and treatments, cultural events, traditional and religious festivals, and Walser and alpine architecture.
All these features are complemented with tasty unique local cuisine. On the road going up towards Val Formazza, in Rozzaro, you will find the Oratory with the ruins of the Ospizio di San Bernardo, founded in the 13th century by the feudal lords De Rodis. The church of San Michele, with its three naves, and the Don Giovanni Bonomo Mineralogical Museum are located in Premia, the main city in the area, from which a 329 m high waterfall, Cascata del Rio d’Alba, is visible. In Crego, visitors can admire the charming Sanctuary of Don Lorenzo Dresco (1808-1878), built by the priest, who was also a stonemason. The Sanctuary offers a breathtaking view. In the frazione Cristo, after crossing Piedilago dam bridge, visitors can see the ruins of medieval watch tower. In the direction of Formazza, the church of San Rocco with stucco and baroque decorations dating back to the 1700s is worth a visit. Hikers and walkers can choose from a variety of itineraries. The beautiful mule tracks, like those between Albogno-Almaiò and Cristo-Bee, are works of great rural value and human wisdom. Visiting the Walser villages of Salecchio (lower and upper), Case Francoli, Ausone and Agaro, visitors can image what it was like to live there, as they admire the wooden and stone artefacts used by the peasants in ancient rural activities. The rock climbing gyms of Balmafregia and Cadarese (famous for crack climbing) are among the most popular in the Alps.
Uriezzo and Maiesso are famous for unique natural phenomena: a rare glaciological park made of different types of gorges and winding rock formations produced by slow river erosion. These are the famous Orridi of Uriezzo. Located in Cadarese, Premia Terme is the most important spa centre in the whole of Northern Piedmont. It gives guests a unique opportunity to restore their physical health and enjoy a restful, relaxing holiday dedicated to well-being.
