Lorella Garden
On the eastern shore of Lake Orta, in the pretty little hill village of Vacciaghetto di Ameno, is located Casa Lorella, a historic residence dating back to the early 17th century and owned by the Lorella family.
The mansion is surrounded by a vast land of about 2.5 hectares, which has been meticulously cared for by the owners over the years to become the poetic English-style landscape garden that can be admired today, set in a splendid panoramic position overlooking Lake Orta. The grassy crags of the large park are home to shrubs and tall trees of great beauty and botanical value, including oaks, cedars, green and red leaf beeches, Japanese maples, magnolias, various conifers, as well as rhododendrons, camellias, azaleas and collections of hydrangeas. The star of the property, however, is a monumental chestnut tree that is almost a thousand years old and is considered one of the oldest plants in the area. The remarkable variety of trees and the skilful combination of different blooms and foliage allow the garden to display seductive plays of colour throughout the year. The changing colours in each season, the scents, the variety of botanical forms offer visitors a unique sensory experience, a profound sense of tranquillity completed by the breathtaking view of Lake Orta, the Island of San Giulio and Monte Rosa.
