Museo del Paesaggio e sezione archeologica “Enrico Bianchetti”

Lago Maggiore

A rich collection of art is displayed in an impressive historic building.

The Museo del Paesaggio, located in the evocative rooms of the historic Palazzo Viani Dugnani, houses the most important collection of works of art on Lake Maggiore, testifying to the ability of the area to attract collectors, patrons, and artists of international renown between the 19th and 20th centuries.
The sculpture collection includes over 300 works, mainly plaster casts, by Paolo Troubetzkoy and a core of 53 works by Arturo Martini.
The painting collection features works by Daniele Ranzoni, Luigi Litta, Federico Ashton, Achille Tominetti, Eugenio Gignous, Guido Boggiani, Arnaldo Ferraguti, Vittore Grubicy De Dragon, Carlo Fornara, Cesare Maggi, Guido Cinotti, Siro Penagini and Mario Tozzi.
The photo gallery exhibition is enriched by two significant 16th-century paintings by Paolo Veronese, recently loaned to the museum by the Piedmont Region.
The museum's cultural offer includes a rich programme of events, meetings, and temporary exhibitions annually.

The archaeological collection of the Museo del Paesaggio, internationally renowned since the end of the 19th century, is housed in the Ornavasso branch of the Palazzo Comunale.
The most important part of the section comprises the funerary objects from Ornavasso itself; over 1,500 pieces give an insight into the evolution of a small Lepontian community, already influenced by the Celtic element and gradually introduced into the Roman world.  The collection also includes a Magna Graecia collection, made up of a homogeneous core of objects that can be dated between the 8th and 4th centuries BC (attributed to the Daunia necropolis of Ascoli Satriano - Foggia) and the collection deposited by the C.A.I. of Intra, made up of two parts: a core of objects from the Verbanese and Roman periods (1st-4th centuries A.D.) and a collection of pottery attributed to a central Italian provenance in the Falisci area, the southernmost tip of Etruria.
