MTB ROUTE: Verbania/Monte Rosso round tour
SEASON March-November
A round trip to explore the beautiful natural environment of the highlands behind Pallanza which, by decision of the municipal administration, will soon become part of the Val Grande National Park.
Starting from the roundabout of the Court of Verbania Pallanza (spacious parking nearby) you follow Viale Azari in the direction of the beautiful Church of the Madonna di Campagna (Our Lady of the Fields). After a few hundred meters you turn left into Via Monterosso (a junction with a tourist sign indicating the way to the Monte Rosso holiday farm). The ascent is smooth, with a constant slope and an impressive number of hairpin bends. The road is narrow so it is preferable to cycle up it on weekdays when the traffic is not busy.
After the last houses the road enters a beautiful beech wood. you pass through the farm gate soon after reach the summit.
For the descent, follow the unmade road that descends to the beautiful village of Cavandone. You pass through the narrow streets of the town and follow the road up to the church of Cavandone with its yew tree which is in the list of monumental trees of the Piedmont. From the church you take a path that descends from the Church of the Madonna del Buon Rimedio (Our Lady of the Good Remedy) (alternatively you can follow the road) and then continue down along the paved road (caution because it is very narrow) until you reach the main road which soon brings you back to the starting point.
